Musical partner of some of the greatest names in MPB, such as Paulo Cesar Pinheiro and Chico Buarque, he earned recognition thanks to his refined melodies and harmonies. Guinga will perform at MIMO with the Recife Symphony Orchestra, repeating the same concert offered to a 4-thousand people audience at the Walt Disney Hall with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, under Vince Mendoza. Inspired by musicians like Toots Thielemans and Paco de Lucia, his music carries unusual harmonies and popular roots. Worldwide, his guitar is perceived as a synonym of quality and good taste. He has a 30 year-career and tours in Europe. He started writing music at 16 influenced by his neighbor guitarist Hélio Delmiro. At 17, he wrote his first song, which won him a prize at the II International Song Festival of Rio in 1967. His studio debut was to accompany the great samba master Cartola for his iconic song “As rosas não falam”. The orchestral arrangements are by Paulo Aragão, Gilson Peranzzetta, Nailor Proveta and Jessé Sadoc, and Guinga performs with a trio formed by trumpeter Jesse Sadoc, clarinetist Paulo Sergio and guitarist Lula Galvão.
