Born in Mali, Ballaké Sissoko is one of the greatest kora masters of our days. His instrument’s sound is like that of an harp with plucked strings. He forms a duo with French cellist Vincent Segal, of the renowned duo Bumcello (trip hop genre, charged with dub sonority), who has also collaborated with the most distinguished artists, ranging from Sting to Cesaria Evora, and frequent participant in the world music and fusion scene. Their concert entitled “Chamber Music” brings Sissoko’s own compositions, with the kora taking the solos while the cello swings in the background, echoing or even recreating musical phrases, which are to pave the way to a number of themes. MIMO´s audience will witness music of delicate nature and hypnotizing effects, which deserves to be regarded as a treaty of sonic subtlety. The idea of playing and recording “Chamber music” with Segal came when Sissoko attended a concert by Bumcello, the astonishing duo in which the Frenchman performs with German drummer and percussionist Cyril Atef.
